John Liu

CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER

John Liu has been a leader in the technology industry for more than 20 years. He began his career as a software engineer before transitioning into senior leadership positions at a variety of organizations, from publicly traded institutions to startups and everything in between. In every role, he's been drawn to technology's ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently and then to evolve those solutions continuously over time. The same is true in his new position as E4E Relief's first chief technology officer. In this role, John will lead all things technology for our growing organization, from cloud operations and cybersecurity to quality assurance and software engineering. The impact of that work will extend far beyond our organization, allowing employees around the world to receive the financial support they need during times of crisis.

While John is new to E4E Relief, he is not new to the world of philanthrotech. He most recently served as CTO at Bloomerang, a donor management platform serving tens of thousands of nonprofit organizations. Prior to that, he held technology management roles at Learn.com, Taleo and Oracle, among others, developing an extensive track record of assembling and growing high-performing software engineering teams. He is a proud graduate of Florida State University and an equally proud track & field coach for Cuthbertson Middle and High School, where his two children are following in his footsteps as impressive track & field athletes.

His superpower

Tenacity.

"I must see things through to completion, whether it's assembling a Christmas tree or trying to find and fix a software bug or a carpentry project. My tenacity compels me to stick with it until it's done."

Words to live by

"It's just two words: 'carpe diem.' In my youth when was a competitive runner, as I warmed up before every race, I would repeatedly tell myself the phrase 'carpe diem' - seize the day. For me, it's the notion that every day is a new opportunity, and you should seize every opportunity put in front of you."
